Trans Fats Are Worse Than You Think
About This Project
The Truth About Trans Fats | Oil On Tap
Client: Oil On Tap
For this project, I worked as editor and motion designer on the debut episode for Oil On Tap, a documentary-style YouTube channel exploring the science, history, and hidden truths behind edible oils, fats, and food industry claims.
This video breaks down what trans fats are, how they became a staple in fries, snacks, margarine, baked goods, and fast food, and why they were eventually removed from much of the food supply and I was responsible for developing the channel's entire visual identity from the ground up, establishing a design system that would carry through future episodes.
My role covered the full post-production pipeline:
Designing the channel's core visual identity a "uniqe documentary" aesthetic combining desaturated black-and-white cutout photography, aged grid-paper textures, and bold white and amber accent colors
Establishing typography direction using Playfair Display Condensed and Bebas Neue to give the channel a distinct, editorial feel
Structuring the narrative edit to translate dense scientific and historical material into a clear, engaging viewer experience
Sourcing and compositing 47+ AI-generated and cutout-style images to visually support claims made throughout the voiceover
Designing and animating supporting motion graphics in After Effects, including a reusable motion template built specifically for the channel
Building the thumbnail composition in Photoshop to establish the channel's visual hook style
Final export and formatting optimized for YouTube delivery
Beyond the edit itself, this project involved building the full production framework visual identity, motion templates, and asset pipeline that Oil On Tap now uses as its reusable design system across future episodes, including the follow-up investigation into avocado oil fraud.
